Lonely Hearts is the title I gave to the screenplay that I wrote and registered in 2003, in Cairo, at the Egyptian film censorship organization. Lonely hearts is the story of four Egyptian women. Malak, Nadine, Amina, and Kismat are the daughters of four prominent and wealthy people who grew up together in a boarding school. Over the years they became best friends. They all went through some emotional turmoils, but the fact that they had each other helped them to overcome their problems.
Malak is a young widow who lost her husband in a car crash. Amina is a succesful buisnesswoman who is in love with Adly; a married man. Kissmat is an actress who fears commitment and breaks up with her fiancee, Khaled. She keeps falling into all kinds of wrong relationships. Nadine is a pregnant wife who finds out that her husband is cheating on her with his best friend's wife.
Time passes, and Malak meets Mazen and her feelings grow for him, but she feels guilty of falling in love again. Mazen had a previous complicated relationship, and his love with Malak is threatened when his past comes back to haunt him. When Malak finds from the woman he had dated that he is still maintaining a relationship with her, Malak calls of the wedding.
Amina finds it hard to end up her relationship with Adly. Eventually she meets another man whom she finds to be more worthy than Adly. She had to move on, she wasted several years of her life waiting for him to divorce his wife.
Nadine loses her child in a domestic accident caused by her husband, after she finds him in bed with his best friend's wife. She goes into severe depression, quits her job, and asks for a divorce.
Kissmat is a lost soul. She keeps resisting Khaled's love until he finds another woman. And when he does, the jealousy inside her erupts and tries to bring him back to her.
The four women had no one else, but each other. With each other help and support, they were able to deal with their problems and to move on with their lives. The movie ends with Malak and Mazen's wedding.
"Lonely Hearts' is a story that revealed the inner feelings of these four women and exposed their weaknesses, strenghts, and views towards life and love. It is a story about the human self and about new beginigs. It emphasizes the fact that life goes on, and that there is always a better chance waiting if one only listens.
